JUDGMENT / ORDER

[Order of the Court was made by K.K.SASIDHARAN, J.] The writ petition is filed in pro bono publico to direct the respondents to complete the on going construction works and inaugurate the Regional Cancer Centre, Balarangapuram, Madurai and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (N.I.C.U), at Madurai, Government Rajaji Hospital with necessary infrastructure and staff forthwith.
2.The Dean, Government Rajaji Hospital, Madurai is present in Court today. According to him, the Public Works Department has already handed over the six floors to house Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (N.I.C.U), and the said building would be inaugurated on 27 August 2017. According to the Dean, the building meant for the Regional Cancer Centre would take six months time to complete. The time is required on account of the on-going works relating to the electrical appliances. Similarly, permission has to be obtained from Atomic Energy Regulatory Board. According to the Dean, the construction will be completed within the outer period of six months.
3.Since, the Dean Government Rajaji Hospital, Madurai, made it clear that the building meant for Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (N.I.C.U), would be inaugurated on 27 August 2017, there is no need for a further direction with respect to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (N.I.C.U).
4.We expect that the respondents would complete the construction of the building meant for housing the Regional Cancer Centre, Balarangapuram, Madurai, taking into account the larger public interest. We direct the first respondent to complete the process of construction as expeditiously as possible.
4.The writ petition is disposed of with the above direction. No costs.
