JUDGMENT / ORDER

Petitioner has provided a cover and thus closed the chassis of the vehicle making it a closed body vehicle. Since the petitioner is said to be engaged in the business of Fire Protection System, “installation and servicing”, the petitioner has to carry materials in the closed body which has to be protected from sun and rain and hence the covering has been provided. The petitioner sought for permission for alteration of vehicle. 2. It is trite that there is no provision by which a permission can be so granted. However, if a body is built on the vehicle, the Registering Authority will have to look at the safety of the vehicle on the road and endorse the alteration if any made, in the registration certificate.
WP(C).27043/14 2 Providing a closed body to the vehicle cannot in fact, said to be an alteration as has been indicated in Ext.P3 judgment. However, the Registering Authority would have to look at the safety aspect and endorse the closed body of the vehicle in the Registration Certificate.
3. Petitioner shall produce the vehicle along with a certified copy of this judgment and a copy of the writ petition with exhibits, within two weeks from today before the Registering Authority and the Registering Authority, after making verification, if found necessary, shall issue endorsement or reject the same within a period of one month from the date of production of the vehicle. The Registering Authority shall bear in mind the observations in Ext.P3 judgment.
Writ petition disposed of.
