[Order of the Court was made by G.R.SWAMINATHAN, J.] This writ petition has been filed for directing the respondents to delete the multiple entries of voters and correct other discrepancies in the electoral rolls in respect of Vilathikulam Constituency. The petitioner had already submitted a representation dated 14.09.2016 in this regard.
2.When the case was taken up for hearing, the learned Additional Government Pleader made submissions based on the communications dated 03.01.2017 and 19.01.2017 sent by the Tahsildar, Villathikulam. It is stated that pursuant to the verification exercises undertaken, the electoral rolls have been revised. The names of those voters who have shifted from the constituency and those who are no more have been deleted.
3.Yet, the learned Additional Government Pleader would submit that it is open to the writ petitioner to bring to the notice of the authorities concerned any other omission or discrepancy and if any such representation is received, they would certainly act on the same.
4.We place on record the said submission. We also hold that as and when the electoral roll is published, the writ petitioner is certainly entitled to lodge his objections and upon receipt of the same, it shall be the duty of the concerned authorities to bestow their attention and ensure publication of error free electoral list.
5.The writ petition is disposed of with the above observation. No costs.
