JUDGMENT / ORDER

The petitioners have approached the District Collector for assignment of land. They claim that they are residing in 23 acres of land comprised in Sy.No.34/1 of Chinnakanal village and this land is known as Ambedkar Colony. Therefore, the petitioners seek assignment of land.
2. In the counter it is stated that the petitioners have encroached various extent of land in Chinnakanal village and that land was earmarked for distribution to Tribal families. It is also stated that there were earlier litigations and claim of such persons were considered and rejected.
3. Anyhow, this Court is of the view that the petitioners' applications have to be considered by the District Collector independently within a period of six months. Till such applications are considered, status quo shall be maintained. However, in case the petitioners' applications are rejected, the revenue authorities are free to take appropriate steps to evict such of the petitioners, whose applications are rejected.
The writ petition is disposed of as above.
