Learned counsel for the petitioner submitted that he is the convener of National Campaign Committee for Eradication of Bonded Labour, which is a non-government organization working for eradication of bonded labour in District Bahraich. Certain labourers were released and certificates as required under the statutory provisions were also issued in their favour, but they have not been provided compensation admissible to them. In this respect, the petitioner has given an application to the District Magistrate, Bahraich dated 2nd April, 2019 (Annexure-4 to the petition) and a copy of the same has also been sent through E-mail. It is further submitted that under the statutory provision, it is the District Magistrate who is competent to ensure payment of compensation. It is lastly submitted that despite representation having been given, till date interim relief compensation has not been paid to the six rescued bonded labourers from Bahraich.
Considering the facts and circumstances of the case, we dispose of this petition with a direction to the respondent no. 2, District Magistrate, Bahraich to examine the representation of the petitioner and after due verification ensure that appropriate orders are passed thereon within a period of four weeks from the date of submission of certified copy of this order, strictly in accordance to law.
