PRAYER: Writ Petition filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India, praying for a Writ of Mandamus, directing the first respondent to dispose of the petitioner's appeal dated 06.12.2010 for verification of Malaivedan Community Certificate based on representation dated 18.03.2016.

The proceedings relating to the verification of the community status of the petitioner is pending before the Tamil Nadu State Level Scrutiny Committee. The petitioner is before this Court with a request to expedite the process of verification.
2. The Principal Secretary to Government, who is also the Chairman of the State Level Scrutiny Committee filed a counter affidavit, wherein, it was stated that the matter was referred to the Vigilance Cell. The details are furnished in Paragraph 6 of the counter affidavit. It reads thus:
"6. It is respectfully submitted that at present the State Level Scrutiny Committee has referred the matter to the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes Vigilance Cell, Madurai Region for obtaining a detailed report regarding the genuineness of the Scheduled Tribes Communal claim of the petitioner before taking final decision as per the guidelines of Hon'ble Supreme Court of India in Kumari Madhuri Patil's case."
3. The learned Additional Advocate General submitted that the matter was referred to the Vigilance Cell by the Principal Secretary vide letter dated 15 February 2017 and on receipt of the report, the process would be completed by the State Level Scrutiny Committee.
4. We have heard the learned counsel for the petitioner and the learned Additional Advocate General on behalf of the State.
5. We direct the first respondent to dispose of the proceedings relating to the verification of community status claimed by the petitioner as expeditiously as possible and in any case within a period of four months from the date of receipt of a copy of this order.
6. The writ petition is disposed of with the above direction. No costs.
