The petitioner approached this court on refusal to pay the maturity value of the Indira Vikas Pathras, alleged to have been purchased by the petitioner from Ponniam West Post Office, Thalassery which got matured on 30.10.2003. The petitioner submits that the originals of the Indira Vikas Pathras were lost. He further submits that he is prepared to execute any document to release the amount covered by the above Pathras. 2. The learned Standing Counsel points out to Ext.R3(b) judgment of the Hon'ble Supreme Court in S.L.P.(C) No.4819/2000, produced along with the counter affidavit. The above judgment is also reported in Central Government of India v. Krishnaji Parvetesh Kulkarni [2006 (2) KLT 423 (SC)]. It was held in that judgment, an IVP is akin to an ordinary currency note and it bears no name of the holder and just as a lost currency note, it cannot be replaced.
I have also gone through the judgment. I am of the view, the above judgment squarely covers the issue and nothing further survives in this writ petition to grant the relief sought in the writ petition. Accordingly, the writ petition is dismissed. No costs.
