JUDGMENT / ORDER

This Criminal Original Petition has been filed to issue a direction to the respondents not to harass the petitioners.
2. It is stated by the petitioners that they are Tamil Nationalists and they have been participating in the agitation conducted by the students in favour of Bull Taming (Jallikattu) from 15.01.2017. The petitioners state that this agitation is going on in a peaceful manner and the entire world is appreciating the way in which the agitation is conducted, because of its democratic way, peacefulness and the participants' self-control and good behaviour. In these circumstances, the respondent police have started manhandling by beating and torturing the petitioners. The petitioners state that every citizen of India has the right to assemble peacefully without arms and show their protest and it is guaranteed under Article 19(1)(a) and 19(1)(b) of the Constitution of India. Therefore, the petitioners pray this Court for a direction to the respondent police not to harass them.
3. When this Criminal Original Petition was taken up on 23.01.2017, this Court made a query to the learned counsel for the petitioners as to when the agitation of the students will come to an end, for which he sought time to get instructions from his clients.
4. Today, when the matter was taken up, Mr.R.Muthukumarasamy, learned Advocate General and Mr.S.Rajarathinam, learned Public Prosecutor, have submitted that the students' protest has come to an end, as the Government of Tamil Nadu has introduced the Enactment with regard to performing 'Jallikattu'. It has been further submitted that the students have dispersed from the place where they protested and there is no protest as of now, and in view of the same, the prayer made by the petitioners has become infructuous.
5. The said submission made by the learned Advocate General and the learned Public Prosecutor is recorded. The petitioners herein were participating among the students who were protesting for 'Jallikattu'. Now, since the protest has come to an end, and all the persons participated in the protest have dispersed, no further orders are necessary to be passed in the present Criminal Original Petition and accordingly the Criminal Original Petition is closed.
