JUDGMENT / ORDER

The petitioner has filed the above Writ Petition to issue a Writ of Mandamus, directing the respondents to grant renewal of pistol license No.628/92 and consequently grant permission to purchase new pistol weapon by considering the petitioner's representation, dated 22.03.2017.
2. The petitioner is a practicing Advocate. He was granted gun license for his self protection in Pistol License No.R 628/92, on 08.10.2004. The petitioner has been regularly renewing the license periodically. On 29.12.2011, the petitioner submitted an application along with challan for renewal of pistol license from 01.01.2012 to 31.12.2014. The petitioner also sold the pistol with the permission of the respondents. Since new pistol was not available, the petitioner sought permission to purchase revolver instead of pistol and the same was pending for consideration before the respondents. Pending the said request, the petitioner sent another request stating that now the pistols are available and hence the petitioner may be permitted to buy pistol itself. The petitioner was asked to appear on 18.11.2016 for renewal of pistol license. Accordingly, he also appeared before the second respondent and also gave statement for renewal of license. Since the license was to expire on 22.03.2017, he gave another application for renewal of license for the period from 01.01.2015 to 31.12.2017 along with all the necessary documents. However, the respondents have not considered the same yet.
3. The learned counsel for the petitioner submitted that though the application is pending for a long time, the respondents have not granted the renewal of the license so far.
4. Mr.A.N.Thambidurai, learned Special Government Pleader appearing for the respondents submitted that the second respondent may be directed to pass orders in the application submitted by the petitioner in accordance with law.
5. In view of the submissions made by the learned counsel on either side, without expressing any opinion with regard to the merits of the case, I direct the second respondent to consider the petitioner's application, dated 22.03.2017, seeking renewal of license and also for the purchase of new pistol weapon and pass necessary orders in accordance with law, within a period of four weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order.
6. With the above observation, the writ petition is disposed of.
No costs.
