Heard learned counsel for the petitioners; the learned Standing Counsel for the respondent nos.1 to 5; and have perused the record.
The petitioners claim that they are adults and in a relationship with each other but, because they belong to different religions, their relationship is not acceptable to the private respondents. Accordingly, they have applied to the police authorities for protection and by this petition, a direction is sought upon the police authorities to provide them protection.
There is nothing in the writ petition to demonstrate that on account of their relationship, any untoward incident had occurred of which a first information report was lodged by the petitioners at any police station.
Under the circumstances, we decline to entertain the prayer as made, at this stage, but deem it appropriate to dispose of this petition by giving liberty to the petitioners to represent their cause to the police authorities or to lodge first information report as and when the occasion arises.
