JUDGMENT / ORDER

The petitioner obtained a Passport from the Regional Passport Officer, New Delhi. In the Passport, the place of birth is shown as 'Alwaye'. According to the petitioner, he is born at Bombay. In view of the above, the petitioner approached the second respondent for correcting the place of birth in the Passport. By Ext.P3, the petitioner is directed to produce court order. The Passport Authorities have power to correct the place of birth. However, when the place of birth is sought to be corrected, it is required to be verified the genuineness of the claim of the petitioner. The petitioner shall state the reasons for showing the wrong place of birth in the earlier Passport by way of an affidavit. The petitioner shall also produce original of a document showing the actual W.P.(C) No.31506 of 2014 2 place of birth. Based on the above, necessary correction shall be made in the Passport in accordance with law.
The writ petition is disposed of as above.
