JUDGMENT / ORDER

(Order of the Court was made by the Acting Chief Justice) Mr.M.K.Subramanian, learned Government Pleader takes notice for respondents, 1, 3 to 5 and 9 to 11. Mr.M.Maharaja, learned Special Government Pleader takes notice for respondents 2 and 6 to 8.
2. The petitioner has filed this writ petition seeking issuance of a writ of mandamus directing all the respondents herein to carry out immediately the activities and provide the facilities mentioned in the Annexure to the petition and to maintain the same at Sriperumbudur to ensure the safe conduct of 1000th year birth anniversary of Shri Ramanuja.
3. The petitioner is the Secretary of International Sri Vaishnava Ramanuja Samrajaya Sabha. It is the case of the petitioner that the 1000th birthday of Sri Ramanuja falls on 1.5.2017 and around 20 Lakhs people are likely to attend the celebrations. It is claimed that the petitioner sent representation to the Chief Minister's Special Cell requesting them to take necessary steps to: make the roads safe, navigable and well-lit; remove the risk-posing seemai karuvelam trees both from the road and the temple lands; provide adequate safe drinking water; uninterrupted electricity supply, temporary shelters; toilet facilities; dress-changing rooms for women; allocate adequate parking spaces for vehicles; arrange for medical facilities; fire-safety measures; and provide adequate police presence, and the same has also been forwarded to the functionaries concerned, but they have not taken any action so far. Hence, the present writ petition has been filed for the relief stated supra.
4. On hearing the learned counsel for the parties, we direct the respondent authorities to look into the matter and make necessary arrangements to facilitate the smooth conduct of the birthday celebrations and provide all safety measures taking into consideration the large number of persons/devotees likely to attend the function.
The writ petition is disposed of accordingly. No costs.
